AIR TEST & BALANCE INC. is an independent NEBB (National Environmental Balancing Bureau) Certified Testing Adjusting and Balancing, Commissioning HVAC systems firm. We specialize in TAB, CX (Commissioning) and Hospital Accreditation Acceptance Testing. 


HVAC Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) are the three major steps used to achieve proper operation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. In general, the TAB specialist performs air and hydronic measurements on the HVAC systems and adjusts the flows as required to achieve optimum performance of the building environmental equipment. The balancing is usually based upon the design flow values required by the Mechanical Engineer for the project and the TAB contractor submits a written report which summarizes the testing and balancing and notes any deficiencies found during the TAB work.




Hospitals are required to perform annual testing of critical areas such as operating rooms, patient isolation rooms and decontamination rooms to comply with their certifying accreditation agency. Annual recertification testing usually consists of Air Exchange Rates and Room Pressurization Testing, but may also include Indoor Air Quality Testing, Particle Count Testing and more.d


Fire & Fire Smoke Damper Testing is a requirement for hospitals and outpatient clinics. Hospitals are required to test all FSD within the facility every 6 years. Outpatient Clinics are required to test all FSD within the facility every 4 years. A testing binder is developed and available for review by accreditation agencies.


Commissioning is an integral component of energy efficient building design, construction and operation. The goal of commissioning is to ensure that the design and construction of building systems meets the owner’s needs, and that building equipment is functioning optimally during occupancy. 3rd party commissioning provides a true value through technical testing, inspection and verification of all building energy systems. This differs significantly from “Process Commissioning” which is more heavily weighted towards providing information and paper management (drawings and spec review, etc.) and is often performed by a commissioning agent that lacks in-the-field experience.

We define commissioning as “The process of ensuring that systems are designed, installed, functionally tested and capable of being operated and maintained according to the owner’s operational needs.


Restaurant kitchen hood testing is required by the city for certificate of occupancy. Having a kitchen hood setup for the correct airflow is not only a requirement for C of O, but it is also for safety, comfort and energy savings.

If a hood is operating above or below the required airflow, the grease filters do not correctly extract the grease from the airflow. This will cause grease to be drawn up the ductwork and into the fan, allowing for the possibility of a grease fire to occur inside the ductwork or on the roof. A grease laden fan can also cause an imbalance in the fan blades which can create excess noise and possible damage. Additional expenses may be incurred to have the system correctly and more frequently cleaned.

Heat created by the cooking surface rises up to the filters and is then extracted from the kitchen. If the airflow is not correctly set, excessive temperatures can be created in the kitchen area and occupants who are working can become very uncomfortable and irritable.

Balancing kitchen hood airflows will make for a safer and more comfortable environment.

Outside of safety and comfort, having kitchen hoods tested and balanced for airflow can save energy thru less cleaning and reduced cooling usage from air condition systems.
